TCAF (Toronto Comic Arts Festival) comics! They are pretty silly, but I wanted to say that I had a really wonderful time at TCAF. I got to see some awesome comic peeps and the response to my comics (Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong debuted there) was AMAZING. So many people saying they loved my work! It was a bit overwhelming, actually. ^^;;

Thanks to everyone who came by my table & came to my panels. Thanks to the wonderful organizers and volunteers who make TCAF an inspiring comics festival! Whenever I am at TCAF, I see nothing but good things for comics, which is pretty much the best feeling you can ever have about this thing I have made my career, my life, my passion.

Also, love to my boyfriend Tim, who has been to four previous TCAFs with me as support. Hopefully next year we’ll be exhibiting together as a comics couple. ;)

I like Skyler a little less now that she’s succumbed to Walt’s machinations, but in the early days she was the voice of morality on the show. She was the one telling him, “You can’t cook crystal meth.” She’s got a tough job being married to this asshole. And this, by the way, is why I should avoid the Internet at all costs. People are griping about Skyler White being too much of a killjoy to her meth-cooking, murdering husband? She’s telling him not to be a murderer and a guy who cooks drugs for kids. How could you have a problem with that?”

My awesome friend Miriam has drawn some fantastic Fake Ending Comics for Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong (previously she drew Fake Ending Comics for Friends With Boys)! Guys I will be at Stumptown Comic Festival this weekend!!! I’m very excited, so excited! (And slightly nervous. Am I cool enough for Stumptown? Probably not but whatever!)

I will be at table O01 and will have some things for sale, copies of Friends With Boys, Bigfoot Boy and The Adventures of Superhero Girl. I may have original artwork and prints, but I’m not sure at this point. Depends on what I can fit in my luggage. I would be happy to sign/draw in any books you bring with you. Dark Horse Comics will have copies of The Last of Us: American Dreams issue #1 for sale, and also additional copies of Superhero Girl.

Here’s my schedule:

2pm- Signing with Dark Horse at the Dark Horse booth. Bring whatever books you want, and there will be copies of The Last of Us:American Dreams #1 there.

Conflicts over exclusion, and identity politics, and what makes a “real” geek have exploded into the mainstream media. Creators, curators, community leaders, and critics on the front lines including Rachel Edidin, Andy Khouri, Scotty Iseri, David Walker, Faith Erin Hicks, and Sfé M. examine the fight over geek identity and barriers to diversity in geek communities and media; and propose concrete steps toward a diverse and inclusive geek culture.

Guillermo Del Toro Is Hatching A ‘Monster’ Of A Series At HBO:

HBO andGuillermo del Toro are teaming on Monster, developing a potential series culled from a series of 18 volumes of Japanese Manga by author Naoki Urasawa published by Shogakukan Inc. Del Toro will co-write the story with Steven Thompson, best known for his work on Dr. Who andSherlock. Thompson will write the pilot, which del Toro intends to direct. The thriller is about the worldwide search by a young doctor for the most evil sociopath that has ever lived. He is a 12-year-old boy, and the doctor’s decision to save his life has unwittingly unleashed a Pandora’s Box that leaves the doc battling to stop a plot of mass genocide. This is certainly a departure for HBO, entering the Manga game, but for del Toro and Thompson, it allows them an incredible sandbox to play in. Del Toro will be executive producer and Thompson co-executive producer, with Angry Films’ partners Don Murphy and Susan Montford executive producing with Exile’s Gary Ungar. Shogakukan will be consulting producer.

Here’s an untranslated 4pp sequence from Yoshikazu Yasuhiko’s manga Star of the Kurds (Kurdo No Hoshi), showing how a serious badass like Yaz can rock a very high panel count for energetic and powerful action-scene storytelling. (This approach, alas, is rather tougher for less skilled comics artists to emulate, as I can mournfully attest.)
