So the Toronto Comic Arts Festival is this weekend, and I will be there. I have a table, and you can come visit me and talk to me about comics and maybe even buy stuff from me. I’ll have my recently published graphic novel Friends With Boys for sale, as well as my self published Superhero Girl book. I think I’ll also have a couple copies of The War at Ellsmere, but I won’t have copies of Zombies Calling or Brain Camp. However, if you already have copies of those (or other books) that you’d like drawn in, come visit me and I’ll do a doodle in ‘em for you. Oh yeah, and I’ll also have buttons! Come buy a button, buttons rule.
Above is the TCAF floor map; I am at table 260 on the 2nd floor with lots of other fabulous people.
I will be taking part in two panels/workshops, and here’s the info for them:
Saturday at the Ristorante Fortuna:
2:15 – 3:45 – Teen Comics Workshop
So you’re sixteen years old … and you want to be a cartoonist. What should you be doing to help make your career a reality? Award-winning graphic novelist and webcartoonist Faith Erin Hicks discusses her own journey to publication and talks about things that worked and things that didn’t from her own career. Moderator: Calista Brill
Sunday at the Pilot Tavern:
3:30 – 5:00 – Comics in the New Millennium
Today’s comics can be in print, online, animated, screenprinted, hand-bound, mass-produced – what makes a comic a comic isn’t the format that it’s produced in. What changes will the comics industry see in the coming years because of today’s changes in technology – do they really foretell a change in reading? With Box Brown, FaithErin Hicks, Jeffrey Rowland, and Matt Forsythe. Moderator: Matt Madden.
I really, really want to see the Jeff Smith inking demo that’s on Sunday from 11:30 - 12:30, so I probably won’t be at my table then.
Hope to see everyone there! I look like this, so am pretty easy to find. Although I did get a haircut. So the hair is shorter. But otherwise, it’s very accurate.
